چکیده

Since the interfering signals from other users of the spectrum is a main problem in HF communication, it is necessary to consider them when evaluating HF radio systems. Based on the Laycock-Gott congestion model, a statistical HF interference model is derived and brieey compared to real measurements. The two basic methods to apply spread-spectrum modulation in radio communication are frequency-hopping (FH) and direct-sequence (DS) modulation. In this work we compare these two methods, with respect to the uncoded bit error probability, on an interference-limited HF channel. The results show that the FH system performs better than the DS system on this channel. The FH system is inherently well suited for the HF environment with predominantly narrowband interferers. The interference rejection capabilities of the DS system are not suucient to handle the high dynamic range of the interfering power. Additional narrowband rejection capabilities would be required to create useful DS systems.

Performance of Spread-spectrum Radio Techniques in an Interference-limited Hf Environment

In HF radio communications, the performance is often limited by the large amount of mostly narrowband interfering signals from other HF users. Therefore, when evaluating HF spread-spectrum systems, a statistical model of the interference is necessary. In this work, we perform a comparison between a frequency-hopping (FH) and a direct-sequence (DS) spread-spectrum system, for an interference mod...

LPI Performance of an Adaptive Frequency-Hopping System in an HF Interference Environment

| Frequency-hopping is considered to be an eeective method for combating active jamming in military radio systems. To further improve the performance , so-called adaptive frequency-hopping (AFH), which uses an adaptively selected pool of the \best" hopping-frequencies for the communication, has been proposed. In this paper, we examine the low probability of intercept (LPI) performance of such a...

On the Multiple Access Interference in a DS/FFH Spread Spectrum Communication system

This paper describes the influence of Multiple Access (MA) interference on the performance of a hybrid Direct Sequence Fast Frequency Hopping SSMA Communication system. MA-interference plays an important role in determining the total interference in a Spread Spectrum system, especially in a non-cellular environment where Power Control is hardly possible. A cross correlation factor which is dire...

IEEE P802.11 Wireless LANs Effects of Microwave Interference On IEEE 802.11 WLAN Reliability

The influence of microwave oven interference on IEEE802.11 Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) performance is a significant factor because they share common spectrum in the 2.400 2.4835 GHz Industry, Science, and Medicine (ISM) band. FCC regulations permit radiated power of up to 1 watt in this band provided spread spectrum techniques are employed. Spread spectrum methods facilitate multiple use...

Adaptive Signal Detection in Auto-Regressive Interference with Gaussian Spectrum

A detector for the case of a radar target with known Doppler and unknown complex amplitude in complex Gaussian noise with unknown parameters has been derived. The detector assumes that the noise is an Auto-Regressive (AR) process with Gaussian autocorrelation function which is a suitable model for ground clutter in most scenarios involving airborne radars. The detector estimates the unknown...
